For years Regional Adjustment Bereau (RAB Inc.) has operated as a multi-state
agency collection primary consumer debts, including defaulted student
loans and credit cards. As of today (4/20/2016), RAB Inc. maintains an
A+ BBB rating. 63 consumer complaints have been closed within 3 years.
Mr. Steven Smith is listed as the president of this collection agency,
which was initially founded in 1971.
The FTC announced in 2014 a settlement agreement whereby
RAB Inc. would pay
$1.5 million in a civil penalty and make certain changes with respect to how they collect debts and their
procedures for handling disputed accounts, among other restrictions. The
FTC complaint alleged that RAB Inc. unfairly and deceptively:
- Contacting consumers at their place of employment despite knowing that
the consumers workplace policy prohibited such contact;
- Caused unauthorized debits from consumers bank accounts;

- Repeatedly calling consumers to collect debts that they did not owe.
As of April 2016, it has been announced that Regional Adjustment Bureau,
